I'm renting a small place in Palo Alto and the lighting is genuinely the worst part of it, harsh overheads with no dimming and a dark corner by my desk that I've given up on. I'd love to fix it but I can't touch the wiring and I'm not sure smart bulbs make sense when I'll probably move out in a year. A friend told me to read this lighting guide when I complained about it, and it did make me realise you can do a lot with plug in lamps and a couple of smart plugs rather than replacing every switch. But I'm still on the fence about whether it's worth the fiddling for a rental. Has anyone here done a renter friendly setup like this? Did it actually change how the place feels or did you end up unplugging everything and going back to normal switches after a month? I'd rather hear the honest version before I spend anything.
